GOD WILL BUILD HIS CHURCH

…And He is doing it all through us!

Our missional history

Our mission is to introduce people to Jesus and help them become fully devoted followers of Jesus. Serving people has always been a part of our 60-year history at CSC!

During the turn of the 21st century God called us to begin a powerful outreach ministry. Today, the power of God uses us and 25 churches across Canada to impact lives through Monday Night Evangelism, just like in the book of Acts.

We do this with a mind for:

  • People to be freed from whatever is binding them. (Isaiah 61)
  • Souls to be saved if lost. (2 Timothy 2:24-26)
  • The broken to be given hope and be healed. (Isaiah 61)
  • People to step into the will of God and His plan and purpose for their life.(Roman 8:28)
  • Bringing the glory to God in whatever we do! (Col 1, 2 Cor 2:14, 1 Cor 10:31)

Over the last decade God has been taking our mission to new heights.

In 2013 we launched the New Canadian Friendship Centre to respond to the growing numbers of new Canadians in our city needing friendship, community and support. Meanwhile more and more people of every background were coming through our doors in search of help and hope. In 2016 we responded by launching our Compassionate Ministries.

Now, God has called us to BUILD the Centre for the City!

We opened our doors in 2024.

Are you ready for what God has next?

THE NEED

God has been using our church to provide food, clothing, training, friendship and help to individuals and families facing job loss, loneliness, personal crises and experiences of brokenness.

Our new purpose-built space in our Central Campus expansion has expanded capacity for more classes, training, food logistics, community and support. We have been able to increase visits to our programs by more than double since we opened the doors to our new home. By consolidating our Compassionate Ministries, our New Canadian Friendship Centre and our Monday Night Evangelism ministry into one facility designed with a missional purpose, we are transforming Central Campus into a missional hub. This allows all ministries to work together to serve with more efficiency and to build stronger bridges between the church and the community.

Vision for the Centre for the City

Are you ready for what God is doing? This is an invitation for all of us to be for the city.

Now, we have more opportunities than ever to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to love our neighbours in Jesus’ name. It’s about God transforming our city through us … one person at a time.

Think of the Centre for the City as everything God can do for the city… through you, through me, and through the Centre Street Church family.

And we are not alone. We are linked arm to arm with CSC’s community partners to make a deeper impact for God’s kingdom, forming a missional network that can empower all of us. All of our campuses. All of our partners. And each of us as individuals and families.

The Centre for the City will equip us to love and walk alongside people in deepest need, including new immigrants & refugees, and people in cycles of poverty, addiction, pain and loss.

It’s about giving vulnerable people a space to belong before they believe – a place of welcome, refuge and hope.

Get ready to step into the mission God is calling you to! Plug into the resources, discipleship and ministry opportunities available within our church and the community.

The Centre for the City has expanded:

Access to clothing and food support for new Canadians and people in need

Our city faces significant food security issues among the general population. The Centre for the City provides the facilities we need to increase our capacity to provide food and clothing for those in need.

Classes for new Canadians and refugees

These include classes (in ESL, citizenship, baking, sewing, cooking and more), as well as first aid and food safety certification training.

Opportunities for gathering, fun and mentorship

The Centre provides space for people to make appointments and drop in for a cup of coffee, prayer and support in whatever they may be struggling with. We provide both individual and family mentorship programs, as well as opportunities to access the gym and other multi-use spaces for fun activities and gatherings like Crossover Sports, monthly community meals, and in the near future, a play structure for children while families connect, and more.

Job training, interview help and resume support

Centre Street Church provides access to computers, networking and resources like job search skills, potential employment and volunteer opportunities at the clothing store, certification training for employment (e.g. food safety) to empower people to get back up on their feet.

Life journey support

We help people seeking deeper life change with a larger plan of action to improve their situation, financially, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Increasingly we have been partnering with the Canadian Mental Health Association of Canada, and the need for mental health services has only grown during COVID.
