Board of Governors

Members of the Board of Governors (BoG) are elected by the membership of CSC for 4 year terms at each AGM. The Board of Governors are the congregation’s representatives and act on behalf of the membership to govern the church and make decisions in accordance with the law and the church bylaws. The board uses a system called Policy Governance. As part of this governing system, the board delegates the running of the church to one employee – the senior pastor. The board sets out the ends (the achievements) that the church is to work towards, the executive limitations (the guidelines that the senior pastor is to work within), the linkage (communication) between the senior pastor and the Board of Governors, and the linkage (communication) between the Board of Governors and the owners (membership, staff, congregation).

In the instance of a senior pastor succession, the Board of Governors is responsible to hire a new senior pastor within the guidelines as set forth in the bylaws – section 4.3 Here. The BoG seeks to keep the congregation informed and provide avenues of input. Ultimately the membership has elected the Board of Governors to make these decisions for the church.
