That day, the language group’s first local pastor and mother-tongue translator was preaching in a remote village. There, he encountered a woman tormented for four months by a mysterious parasite lodged in her throat. She told him she had sought medical intervention, and even done sacrifices to animist spirits–with no success. Desperate and breathless, she gave the pastor a challenge: “Pray. If it leaves, I’ll believe in Jesus.”
So he prayed.
As he and the team of mother-tongue translators laid hands on her, she began to cough violently. Then it happened—the bug came out. Later when recounting the story, the pastor marvelled, “It was huge!” The woman was healed. Stunned, she explained to the pastor, “The Jesus that you worship really has a lot of power. I will believe in Jesus. I will accept Jesus.”
During the same visit, a mother brought her 12-year-old daughter to the same pastor. Her body was covered in open sores, raw and oozing—her flesh torn from endless scratching.
“If she heals, I’ll believe,” the mother pleaded.
As they prayed, the pastor saw a vision: a man in white reached down from heaven and grasped the girl’s blackened hands, lifting her to her feet.
The pastor reports, "After we said amen, I said, ‘Jesus has saved this girl’s life. He has saved her.’”
The girl became well. The sores disappeared and she is now going to school in the city.". Both the mother and daughter came to saving faith in Christ.
God is at work in this community–in the most unexpected, astonishing ways. Please continue praying for the team’s faithfulness and boldness in sharing the gospel.
Thanks to CSC's generosity and prayers, these miracles recently took place in a restricted-access community in Southeast Asia where Wycliffe Canada partners are advancing Bible translation.
