Second Corinthians 13:5 gives the following challenge: “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.” In this passage, the Apostle Paul implies there is a faith that is genuine and alive and a faith that is empty and dead.
In Romans 2, Paul gives a similar challenge to those who part of the church in Rome. After describing, in chapter one, those who reject or replace God, Paul puts the spotlight on those who seem to be very respectable, moral, law-abiding people in the church at Rome. His concern is that their faith is genuine and that they are not trusting in the wrong things.
This weekend, as we continue our study in Romans 2, we will be learning the marks of a genuine, God-pleasing faith and examining ourselves to see whether we are trusting in the right things.
