Position Summary:
The Sewing Class Teacher works under the direction and leadership of the Sewing Class Leader to provide quality, fun instruction to new immigrants in the Sewing Program, with a focus on developing relationships and creating a safe and welcoming community for people of all faiths and cultures. Classes vary from beginner level to more advanced project-based classes, including quilting.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work alongside other volunteers to teach sewing skills
- Observe class dynamics and work with Sewing Class Leader to facilitate a healthy community
- Help organize group projects, activities, and outreach opportunities, including NCFC Artist Collective
- Build relationships with participants and encourage faith discussions
- Pray regularly with and for volunteers and group participants
Time Commitment:
- 1 class per week (Mondays 9:20am -12pm); special events, celebrations, and volunteer training events; minimum one semester
Qualifications:
- Understanding of, and agreement with, CSC Statement of Faith, Mission and Pursuits
- Spiritual Gift(s) of teaching and shepherding
- Intermediate to advanced sewing skills and knowledge
- Christ-like love and respect for new immigrants/people of other faiths and culture
