Updates and prayer requests
Call to action: Write notes of encouragement to people in need. Part of our BUILD projects include expanding our capacity to help people in need through a Centre for the City. As construction continues at Central Campus, we have also been increasing food distribution for people struggling during COVID-19. But we want to provide more than food. We want to show people the love of Jesus. We are accepting notes of encouragement that we are including with the lunches and frozen meals we give to families in crisis, seniors, at risk youth and children, as well as people facing financial or health-related hardship.
Central Campus: Central Campus Phase 1 work is progressing well. The NE corner cement footings that will support the new second level have been poured. About 20,000 pounds of drywall has been removed from the ceiling / catwalks in the Worship Centre and reinforcement of the ceiling steel is complete. Electrical & other related work is underway in the Worship Centre. Rough grading in the new south parking lot is complete; it is likely that the lot will be paved by the end of September. Reconfiguration of the second floor office area to add two more meeting rooms is nearing completion; these rooms will be used for Grade 5/6 and Junior High and other ministries. Installation of deep underground services is complete and there is now a large excavation on the west and north of the building. The west entrance canopy has been removed and that entrance will not be accessible until the expansion is complete.
NW Campus: Northwest site work continues to progress well. Installation of the roof shingles is underway and when complete, work will start on the interior drywall. Steel Stud Framing is underway on the main and second levels. Installation of exterior windows is nearing completion and the exterior wall finishing are progressing. We are hoping the building will be fully enclosed soon. Installation of landscaping walls and trees are progressing. The parking lot is also progressing and will likely be fully paved by the end of September. We anticipate holding the first services in this facility in early 2021.
Tenders: The tender process has been going well. The bulk of the Northwest contracts have been awarded. The initial contracts for Central Campus have been awarded and there are more contracts to review over the coming months.
Construction Schedule: Delivery of some materials to both construction sites have been delayed due to factors attributed to the COVID19 pandemic. We are working to mitigate the effect this will have on the construction schedule.
Prayer requests:
- Pray for CSC leadership as they manage the impact that the COVID19 pandemic will have on the church and on the BUILD project. Pray for good weather for the weekly outdoor services.
- Pray that our government leaders will make wise decisions during COVID19 and breakthroughs in the quest for vaccines or treatments by scientists and researchers, and that many people will be drawn into the kingdom of God during this time.
- Pray that as we continue construction to expand Central Campus and the Centre for the City that God would bless our work in feeding people who are marginalized. Pray that the congregation would rise up to provide notes of encouragement to people in need so we can have an even deeper impact for Christ than food alone.
- Pray that construction will progress significantly and safely and for an extended period of dry weather, so exterior work can proceed without interruption and Central Campus concrete work can conclude before the weather becomes colder.
- Pray that efforts to maintain schedule will be successful, according to God’s timing.
- Pray that renovations in the worship centre and construction at Central Campus will proceed smoothly, so that Central Campus can be ready for indoor services in Gods timing.
- Pray for wisdom for future decisions about when to start further phases of Central Campus expansion.
- Pray for all those involved in the tender selection process, and that the right contractors will be available at the right price.
- Pray for positive relationships to continue with our neighbours at both Northwest and Central, and on the Global Ministry sites.
- Pray for safety for all workers.
- Pray for God’s presence on the construction sites at Northwest and Central, the Global Ministry sites.
The importance of prayer
The BUILD prayer team meets regularly (typically monthly on Wednesday nights) to pray for the BUILD projects. During the COVID-19 Pandemic these prayer meetings are being held online. Invitations to join these meetings will be sent to the prayer team by email. Sign up to receive these emails here.
