Steps to Safety is a program that promotes independence, collaboration, engagement, and empowerment through education in fire prevention, detection, and evacuation, as well as fall prevention at home.

The Facts

  • “Cooking fire” is the number one cause of fires in Calgary.
  • At age 65, older adults are twice as likely as the population to be killed or injured in fires.
  • Falls cause 85% of seniors’ injury-related hospitalizations and 95% of all hip fractures.

This is a free event. However, you have the option to pre-order a hot lunch for $10. Alternatively, you can bring your own lunch.


When: April 23, 2025

Where: Central Campus, NW 143 B&C—first floor multipurpose.
