The Book of Exodus records the greatest redemptive event in the Old Testament. Yahweh is presented as the God who saves His people from oppression. He delivers Israel from Egypt, the land of slavery and leads them on the path to the Promised Land. How God delivers His people from Pharaoh’s oppressive regime foreshadows how God spiritually delivers His people in the New Testament through Jesus as our Passover Lamb. Exodus provides us the pattern of God’s redemptive activity and this book’s influence reverberates throughout the OT and the NT.
God reveals Himself to the Israelites on Mount Sinai and gives them the identity as the people of God. The Tabernacle in their midst serves as a dwelling place of God. All this points to the journey of every follower of Christ and our relationship with God. Christ offers a greater salvation in the New Testament by redeeming us from our sins and assuring us of God’s Presence as we journey to our new home.
